Vitatabs Omega-3 Krill capsules contain Superba™ Boost krill oil from Antarctic krill (Euphausia superba) harvested from the pure waters of Antarctic waters of the Southern Ocean by Eco-Harvesting method. Superba™ Boost in an upgraded formulation with higher phospholipids and omega-3 fatty acid levels and is superior to Superba™ 2.
Antarctic krill belong at the bottom of the food chain and have a relatively short life span. They also live in the pristine waters of the Antarctic. Combining these factors, Antarctic krill have little chances of toxin or heavy metal accumulation compared to the fishes commonly used to produce fish-based omega-3s supplements.
Omega-3 fatty acids reduce triglycerides and cholesterol levels, and promote brain, eye, skin and joint health. Krill oil is a source of natural omega-3 fatty acids.
The Phospholipid Advantage
The omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) in krill oil are bound to phospholipids which allows them to be better absorbed by the gastrointestinal system (i.e. higher bioavailability).
Clinical studies have demonstrated that when krill oil or fish oil were ingested at comparable doses, krill oil increased the Omega-3 index by nearly 70% more than fish oil. The Omega-3 index reflects how much EPA and DHA there are in body tissues, and inversely correlates with cardiovascular risks.
Other studies showed that DHA accumulation in brain was twice as high when supplied in the phospholipid-bound form than in the triglyceride-bound form (the predominant form of omega-3 found in fish oils).
Being phospholipid-bound also makes the krill oil miscible with gastric juices, in turn this reduces the fishy aftertaste that comes with fish oil ingestion. Phospholipids on their own are essential for cellular activities, support liver health and help maintain healthy blood cholesterol levels.
